On ne frappe pas un homme à terre : c'est ce que dit la règle mais NONE a déjà prouvé qu'il ne les suivait pas et si son album éponyme retirait toute perspective de béatitude spirituelle, Life has gone on long enough, son deuxième opus, nous interdit l'accès au bonheur terrestre. La vie n'a aucune substance et la production plus distante le confirme. Le DSBM s'empare de textures sonores blues, mettant en relief une dépression urbaine. Les cris partent en fumées : ne restent que les pleurs...

You don’t so much listen to this album as survive it, like a lot of life. The emotions surge close to the surface, raw and bleeding; at times hopeless and lost, at others raging uncontrollably at all the injustices to which we are subjected each and every day. Having been thus scourged over and over and over again in our lives, will we become transcendent spark or gray ash upon our death?

While Ofte jeg drømmer mig død will most likely always be my favourite Afsky album (being one ov my favourite albums in general), Om hundrede år ticks all the boxes I hoped it would: the calm and simultaneously depressing folk elements are there; the wailing screams of a forlorn spirit, forced to eternally wander the woods (apt comparison, deadpunk!); the harsh, bitterly cold guitar riffs and the ultimate realisation of life, death and our inevitable undoing. Exactly what I want. Recommended!

I'm slowly starting to unravel the Swiss black metal scene's secrets. Aara's Triade I: Eos has repeatedly been put on my radar via BMP and Ippo, and rightfully so. Energetic, highly melodic black metal that has more happening in a single song than many artists deliver on whole albums. This had me on the edge of my seat for its entire duration, be it via the almighty (and muscular, what a fitting description!) riffs, the choral and banshee-esque singing or the drumkit assault. Immens!
